What Size Cabinet Hardware Should Be Installed?
A well done kitchen remodel is really about the details. Of course, cabinets and countertops are important. But, lets not forget about the cabinet hardware (knobs and pulls). Thinking of them as the jewelry for the kitchen cabinets might give you a different impression about their importance. Do you know what size cabinet pulls should be installed?
Standard Pull Size Option
One of the decisions you’ll make about the kitchen cabinet hardware after you narrow down your selection is what size cabinet hardware should you use. Basically there are three schools of thought. First, you can go with what would be more of a standard size, one that feels good and is functional. In most cases, this pull often is around 5-1/2″ to 6″ long.
A Classic Pull Size
Another approach to take for a classic look would be to follow the General Rule keeping your pull size around 1/2 the length or less of the drawer front width and 1/3 or less the height of the doors, as suggested by Amerock in one of their recent Collection Updates. That would mean a drawer cabinet that is 18 inches wide would have pulls 9″ or less. For the 36″ upper cabinet doors the length of the pull would be 12″ or less.
For Dramatic Effect
The third approach would be for a more dramatic effect to go with pull lengths that are up to as wide as the drawer width or door height. This helps accentuate the clean lines. This will also provide you with a more uniform appearance throughout the kitchen.
Your design professional will help guide you through the selection including the size of cabinet hardware. Style, size and color/finish all come into play when making the right selection. So, just like a nicely put together outfit, your kitchen will be a beautiful showpiece once well curated and appointed. It really is about the details.
